🌧️🎶 This time, I decided to make a musical instrument out of the weather.
I created The Rain Orchestra, an interactive garden where raindrops play hanging vessels made of glass, brass, and wood.
✨ Enter The Rain Orchestra
The idea is simple: you arrange the instruments, but the rain composes the music.
You can move vessels around, tune their notes, change the wind and rainfall, or choose between four atmospheric settings, from Midnight Greenhouse to Copper Rooftops.
Every raindrop that strikes a vessel contributes a note. Beneath the garden, a musical score gradually appears, recording what the weather has played. You can even replay the last twenty seconds.
My favorite experiment is to start with gentle rain and glass instruments, then gradually increase the wind and introduce brass bells.
The entire experience runs offline. The sounds are synthesized in your browser, so tap “Wake the sound” to begin.
I tested the interactive controls and rendering on desktop and mobile-sized screens.
I wanted to make something that wasn't about solving a problem or reaching a destination—just an environment in which you can listen, experiment, and occasionally be surprised. 🌿
