🔎 This time, I built a machine that reconstructs invisible objects from their shadows.
✨ Enter The X-Ray Atelier
Imagine an object hidden inside a sealed box. You cannot photograph it, but you can measure how much light passes through it from different directions.
Can you reconstruct its shape?
I created an interactive tomography laboratory where you can draw objects, scan them from different angles, and watch their images gradually emerge.
The mathematics is genuine: the machine calculates the Radon transform and reconstructs the image using filtered backprojection.
My favorite experiment is Mystery Object. The machine secretly selects a shape. Start with just eight viewing angles and try to identify it. Then increase to 80 angles and watch the scattered evidence converge into a recognizable picture.
There's another surprise: turn off the reconstruction filter. Even with 80 perfectly accurate projections, the image becomes blurry.
The question I wanted to explore: How can hundreds of incomplete observations combine into knowledge that none of them contains individually?
I tested the reconstruction calculations and interactive controls in a browser. Everything works offline, including on mobile. 🌿
